My theme for June is gratitude. I am very grateful that June has been a month of travel. Here is one last thought on gratitude.
As we stand along the ever-changing waters of life, we will always have the choice to make. Each morning we have a choice: everything is happening for me: an attitude of gratitude or everything is happening to me: an attitude of grievance. As Wayne Dyer points out: We need to pick a good one!
Alan Cohen in his book The Dragon Doesn’t Live Here Anymore set out a wonderful illustration of people living with an “attitude of gratitude:
“And it seems that wherever, I go there is one person whose smile is just a little brighter, or whose welcome is just a little warmer, or whose hug is just a little more genuine than the others. These are the people that I really appreciate, who inspire me to try a little harder to give a little more and to make a difference in the lives of the people around me. Their extra effort makes me want to be like them, and to pass along what I have received.”
A friend generally ends most of our conversations with the phrase: “Make it a great day!” How wonderful that instead of saying “good bye” we suggest that the person “make it a great day” and maybe you will make that person smile.
Maybe you can thank the person in the grocery store who just packed up your groceries and let them know that you appreciate their efforts.
MAKE GRATITUDE YOUR ATTITUDE. Sometimes we all need to take a moment to give ourselves some “Kindness.” Take a break to notice the good around you. Talk to yourself in positive ways. Your spirit of joy and gratitude will inspire others!
Make it a Great Day!
