November 2024 Intention Surrender & Letting Go

Today is the new moon in Scorpio, and it is time to set new intentions.  In November, I have picked a theme which I have resisted pursuing.   My theme is “Letting Go” and/or “Surrender”.  In August I experienced three medical issues and according to my intuitive energy healer the issues are governed by the First, Second and Third Chakras and more importantly result from my not being able to surrender and let go.  I fully acknowledge I always felt I could control everything happening to me… yes, I am Roland… a “control freak “.

Intellectually I believe there is difference between “letting go” and “surrender”.  So, my initial work this month is to discern if there is a difference or is this one of my “rational brain” rumination where the ego says you can let go of what no longer serves you but you “never surrender”.

So, the first question is a definition.  I have chosen one by Dr. David R Hawkins M.D. Ph.D.:
“Letting go is like the sudden cessation of an inner pressure or the dropping of a weight. It is accompanied by a sudden feeling of relief and lightness, with an increased happiness and freedom.
“….You could always feel free and happy and never be cornered by your feelings again….letting go consciously and frequently at will. You are then in charge of how you feel, and you are no longer at the mercy of the world and your reactions to it. You are no longer the victim.”
He goes on to comment:

“To be surrendered means to have no strong emotion about a thing: “It’s okay if it happens, and it’s okay if it doesn’t.” When we are free, there is a letting go of attachments. We can enjoy a thing, but we don’t need it for our happiness. There is progressive diminishing of dependence on anything or anyone outside of ourselves. “

Also, on letting go and surrender, of course is Krishna’s advice to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2 verses 47 through 49

You have a right to your actions, but never to your actions’ fruits. Act for the action’s sake. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.

This equanimity is yoga. (actual Sanskrit is Yogastha Karu Karmani another translation “Established in the present take action”) Action is far inferior to the yoga of insight, Arjuna.

Pitiful are those who, acting, are attached to their action’s fruits. The wise man lets go of all results, whether good or bad, and is focused on the action alone. Yoga is skill in actions.

Today is Friday and according to Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga, it is the Law of Detachment.  My actions are blissfully free from attachment to outcome. I will commit to detachment and I will embrace uncertainty.  My mantra this month: Om Anandham Namah – My actions are blissfully free from attachment to outcome.

So, I will let the learning begin.  Davidji , in his Insight Timer guided meditation, “Change is the Constant’ suggests that we move over and “let the universe slide into the driver’s seat”.  We all know how much we resist being the passenger.
